
In this beginner’s workshop, expert Appalachian musician Wayne Erbsen will show you just how easy and fun it is to learn how to play the banjo by learning songs such as “I’ll Fly Away” and “The Ballad of Jed Clampet.” This workshop is for absolute beginners with zero experience! Banjos will be available for a rental fee of $10 per banjo. If you need to rent a banjo, please indicate so via booking question, but bring $10 cash with you to the workshop. This workshop will be a very small group setting of 15 participants. SPACE IS LIMITED, so reserve your spot now!
After the workshop, there will be a concert by Wayne from 4:00pm-5:30pm open to the public.

Wayne is a master of a many styles of music including old-time, bluegrass, blues, folk, Appalachian and gospel. He performs on clawhammer and bluegrass banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and guitar. His programs are highly entertaining with songs mixed with history, stories, and humor with a large dose of fiery instrumentals. Wayne has written dozens of music instruction books and songbooks for all levels, including the bestselling Bluegrass Banjo for the Complete Ignoramus. He also teaches old-time music at the University of North Carolina-Asheville and at the Log Cabin Music & Cooking Center in Asheville. Wayne has won numerous prizes at fiddler’s conventions, including 1st place in clawhammer banjo (Galax, Virginia, 1973) and 1st place in senior old-time fiddler (Fiddler’s Grove, North Carolina, 2004). For more than thirty years, Wayne has hosted Country Roots on Blue Ridge Public Radio. Country Roots is devoted to bluegrass and old-time country music and is BPR’s longest-running program.
